Biography

Born and brought up in East Anglia, Rob's early understanding of Higher Education was derived from observing student life in Cambridge. Not ready for work, but armed with an UCCA Handbook, university seemed an ideal choice. After graduating from York University with a philosophy degree, Rob spent time as a mountain guide and worked in the electronics industry before training as a careers adviser in Birmingham. After moving to Somerset as a senior careers adviser, Rob developed his interest and skills in HE guidance through working in a wide range of schools and colleges, and became the County HE Liaison Adviser.

Since leaving Connexions in 2008, he continues to share his enthusiasm from an independent perspective across a wide range of activities including schools liaison work for the University of Swansea, co-organising the Bristol HE Convention and co-authoring publications such as ‘Your Way Forward', and ‘Getting In, Getting On' to help students, teachers, tutors and advisers manage the transition into and through Higher Education. He currently contributes to the work of Lifelong Learning Networks and provides HE advice and guidance in a number of schools and colleges in the South West.

In an increasingly complex and confusing world, Rob is passionate to see the restoration of high quality careers and HE guidance available to all at the point of need.
