In October 2009 the DCSF published a strategy for young people's information, advice and guidance (IAG) - Quality Choice and Aspiration - outlining its plans to improve the quality of careers advice and support to young people and their parents.
This half-plenary session will present an overview of the strategy, set in the context of recent changes in IAG policy and practice, and will examine the implications for practice in schools, colleges and local authorities.
The session will also provide delegates with a briefing on two other publications released on the same day as the strategy, namely the statutory guidance to schools on impartial careers education and a report of research undertaken by an NFER-NICEC team on the role of careers coordinators in schools and their professional development. The three documents present an agenda of developments for the coming months and indeed years.
There will be opportunities for delegates to share experiences and thoughts on these issues, as well as listen to the presentation.
