Mrs Lesley Haughton - Consultant, Foundation Degree Forward
Overview
Many young adults would prefer to plan to learn and progress through HE while at work, rather than attending a full time university course and running up a debt. Careers advisers may find this group hard to reach and may not be fully aware of the best routes and pathways for working learners. Foundation Degree Forward (fdf), working in partnership with TUC unionlearn, has developed a free resource base for advisers to help them to assist working adults to make the right choices.
This session will cover
- What is different for working learners?
- What does work-related and work-based HE look like?
- Why are Foundation degrees a good option?
- How can learners negotiate with employers to get support for their learning?
- What help is available for advisers?
Format
Presentation, quiz, activities and discussion
Outcomes
- Awareness of the different needs and opportunities for working learners, and the advantages of learning at work
- Access to a range of resources for advisers to help learners to make the right choices and get support for their work-based learning
