With over 1.3 million employees and 350 different roles on offer, the NHS needs people with qualifications in a wide range of fields, from management to physics, and from IT to podiatry. Students' perceptions of the opportunities available in the NHS are often limited to medicine and nursing, but there are many more clinical and non clinical roles available. This workshop will introduce career options around medicine and other traditional roles, plus some of the lesser known careers available.
This session will include:
- An introduction to the structure of the NHS
- An overview of the breadth of careers on offer; examples of how various roles link with subject areas and degree choices
- How to find information about university courses leading to statutory registration, job roles, vacancies, work experience and the two main graduate training schemes
- A more in-depth insight into specific career areas including nursing, healthcare science, health informatics, and public health
Format
Following an overall introduction to the NHS and the opportunities available by Alan Simmons, Careers Consultant at NHS Careers, will be four 15 minute presentations covering specific career areas below. The session will conclude with a short question and answer session with all the presenters.
