An introduction to The Open University's model of home-based supported study. The Open University is the largest university in the UK with 200,000 students. 20,000 of these students are in London. All courses provide paper based and online materials. Some courses also use DVDs and audio files. Most of the HE Level 1 courses include regular tutorials. Students will have either a personal tutor or a learning advisor.
A better understanding of how OU home based study may be an option for school leavers.
The University of Hertfordshire is the UK's leading business-facing University and has developed through innovation and enterprise. This workshop will give an insight on how distance learning is currently being delivered by universities such as Hertfordshire. There will be examples of distance learning courses including how these courses are delivered, supported and assessed. It will also look to the future and how distance learning is a key element of our long-term strategy.
It will give participants the opportunity to discover more about distance learning and how it is delivered by Universities. Attendees will learn the advantages and disadvantages of this mode of study. By the end of the session you will be able to advise students better on the options available for studying off campus.
