In April 2008 local authorities assumed full responsibility for the provision of IAG services for young people. In 2010 the new adult advancement and careers service (aacs) will be launched. This NICEC network meeting included presentations on the current state of play in the development of provision for adults and young people and considered the implications for an all-age approach to career guidance services.’

Tony Watts explored the pros and cons of an all-age service, drawing from examples in the rest of the UK and in New Zealand, and explored what an ‘all-age strategy’ might comprise.
Allister McGowan:
'Full circle? - careers guidance and the local authorities'
Allister McGowan shared the findings from research undertaken with David Andrews and Tony Watts, funded by CfBT, into the new arrangements for the provision of careers/Connexions, IAG services for young people in England since April 2008.
Ruth Hawthorn:
‘Adult services: bridging the gap’
Ruth Hawthorn outlined current progress towards the aacs, and the issues, highlighted in the two residential ‘expert practitioner’ workshops commissioned by DIUS from CRAC/NICEC during 2008, as to how the aacs will link with services for young people.
