Decisions at 14-16 2009:
Navigating the new careers landscape
June 2009
Location: tbc

Decisions at 14-16
is a one-day training event for all those supporting the career decision-making of young people at Key Stages 3 and 4.

The new 14-19 curriculum has never been more varied than it is today. With further diploma developments launching each year until 2011 and the expansion of the apprenticeship programme, young people's choices will continue to grow. It is vital for careers professionals to have up-to-date information and access to a wealth of resources, ensuring young people have a sound basis on which to make their career decisions at this important step.

Crucially, careers co-ordinators and advisers must have the opportunity to consider and discuss these developments from the guidance perspective.

For careers staff working in or with schools and colleges, this event will:
  • expand knowledge of the current opportunities on offer to young people
  • give an up-to-date picture of the progress of the diploma and how it sits alongside existing routes
  • extend and update awareness of routes beyond the qualifications
  • provide practical tools to support young people's career management and self-development.

This event will also give participants an opportunity to engage with the new DCSF-funded research project which intends to inform the development of CPD for careers co-ordinators in schools.
