Programme Duration: 1 day Year Group: 12
Aim: for students to have a better understanding of the skills, behaviours and values of successful leaders.

Objectives:
  • to explain what a team leader is
  • to explain the difference between a manager and a leader
  • to show the students, by learning through doing, the effect of a leader on the success of a team
  • for participants to appreciate ‘leadership’ as a relationships between the leader and their team
  • to help participants to understand and identify the different styles of leadership according to the balance of their focus of these three elements: task, team or individual
  • to identify and understand strategies and behaviours for being an effective leader
  • to provide the opportunity for participants to take a leadership role, follow the leadership process for a complete task and evaluate their effectiveness through the team’s success
  • to highlight the importance of the characteristics of an effective leader in the world of work.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will: 

  • understand the characteristics of successful leaders
  • know the difference between a manager and a leader
  • see ‘leadership’ as a relationships between the leader and their team
  • appreciate the effect of a leader on the success of a team
  • appreciate the value of all team members in the success of the team
  • take a leadership role and evaluate their effectiveness and through the team’s success
  • understand and identify the different styles of leadership and to know which style they feel most comfortable with
  • to see the importance of the characteristics of an effective leader in the world of work.
