Sixth Form Induction

Programme Duration
: 1 day Year Group: 12
Aim: to facilitate the transition from Year 11 to Year 12

Objectives

  • to help the participants to understand and identify the practical implications of the transition from Year 11 to Year 12 e.g. time management, self-motivation, and responsibility for their own learning
  • to create a safe environment in which the participants can freely discuss challenges they face when they enter the 6th form and prepare for the world of work
  • to provide an opportunity for the participants to develop personal strategies for meeting these challenges
  • to make explicit links between the skills which will make the participants successful in the 6th form and those which will also make them more employable
  • to give the participants the opportunity to identify their skills and practise using them.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • have increased awareness of the significance of moving into the 6th form
  • identified personal challenges, which they face and have a clearer idea of how to deal with them
  • feel more confident in their own ability to make a successful transition into the 6th form/ to the world of work
  • be more aware of the skills they personally have and understand the importance of developing them
  • gain awareness of the need to be more ‘self’ motivated and take responsibility for their own learning as they move into the 6th form
  • have used the skills that make an individual more successful in the 6th form and more employable for the future including problem solving, time management, decision making, adaptability, communication, teamwork, negotiation, and presentation skills.
