Programme Duration: 1 day Year Group: 10
Aim: for students to be better prepared for their work experience.

Objectives

  • to highlight the skills that are important for the world of work
  • to give participants the opportunity to use these skills and identify the skills they need to develop
  • to explain what will be expected of them when they attend their work experience
  • to give the opportunity to listen to people from the world of work talking about ‘What makes a good employee?’
  • to have the opportunity to talk to facilitators from the world of work and ask any questions that they may have
  • to highlight the importance of their attitude and behaviour when on work experience
  • to emphasis the value of their work experience as an insight to the world of work.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • be aware of the skills that are important for the world of work
  • understand which skills they personally need to improve and develop
  • understand the effect of their attitude on the success of their work experience, and their work after school
  • be more aware of how valuable their work experience is as an insight into an area of the world of work
  • be aware of the common elements that are important to all areas of the world of work – presenting a positive image, being assertive and body language
  • feel better prepared for their work experience
  • have had the opportunity to talk about any worries that they have about their work experience such as how to behave or what will be expected of them on the first day.
